Encyclopaedia Britannica, Inc., has just published a revised edition of its award-winning Britannica Student Encyclopedia (http://info. eb. com/html/print_student_encyclopedia. html), the company said today.

The 16-volume set for students in grades three through six includes a host of revisions, such as updated populations, new and revised articles on countries and people, updated maps, new photos and other updates that make it the most current set available for this age group.

Created by the editorial department of Encyclopaedia Britannica and first published in 2007, the curriculum-correlated set is designed to provide a lively and contemporary reference work for today’s students in the elementary grades. The set makes extensive use of charts, tables and fact boxes to help readers find key information quickly. Articles are clearly divided into sections to make browsing easy, and page design is colorful, open and pleasing to the eye.

Containing 2,300 articles, nearly 3,000 photos and images, and 1,200 maps and flags, the encyclopedia gives students what they need for homework and projects while making special efforts to introduce them to the craft of research.

“Today, in the electronic age, print encyclopedias have to add something distinctive,” said Michael Ross, senior vice president at Britannica and general manager of the company’s education division. “They have to stimulate students’ curiosity with great visual materials and satisfy it with intellectual substance. That’s been our goal from the start with the student encyclopedia.”

The American Library Association journal Booklist called Britannica Student Encyclopedia “delightful,” “attractive and engaging,” and “a much-needed addition for the age group” when it was first published. It’s won a number of industry honors, including two Teachers’ Choice Awards and the Crystal Award of Excellence from the Chicago Book Clinic.

The new Britannica Student Encyclopedia is available now for purchase. Interested schools and libraries can go to http://info. eb. com/ (http://info. eb. com/) or call 1-800-621-3900.
